Luca nodded and stood up.
It was an uncomfortably quiet albeit hard training. Afterwards, they had a quick shower, both anxious to get out of each other’s way.

»Morning!« Tom steered clear of Frederik as if he had an infectious disease.
»Good morning! I wonder what’s eating you.« Frederik asked astonished.
»Nothing.« Tom’s brows contracted while he flung his coffee cup on the table and spilled half of the content. »Shit! That’s all I needed!« Tom went to the kitchen cupboard to get a cloth.
»It doesn’t look like nothing,« Frederik said. »You’re never in a bad mood.«
»You don’t say? Well, today I am. After thirty-one years, I have a right to be in a bad mood.« Tom grabbed for his bread and bit into it as if it was a question of killing a deer.
Maik entered the lounge and stopped at Tom’s look. »Thick air?«
Tom blinked and grunted while Frederik shrugged his shoulders and made a face.
With a sidelong glance at Tom, Maik sat down and started »You’ve never been in a bad mood, Tom. Trouble at home?«
»No, not yet.«
Maik and Frederik changed meaningful looks.
Then, Maik stood up and pretended to have to go to the bathroom.
Frederik slipped on his chair and looked at Tom questioningly. »Have you met another woman? Or is something wrong with Luca Steffen? Is Zoe angry because you’re almost never home?«
»There’s no other woman and it has got nothing to do with Luca,« Tom answered piqued.
As Frederik got ready to come closer, Tom panically jumped and fled out of the room. He was sure to have spent too much time with his queer colleague! And he hated himself for having the urge to get intimate with Luca. His one thought was this tiresome subject.
He tried to steer clear of Frederik for the rest of his nightshift and fled home early in the morning.

»Have you bought flowers?« Zoe asked her husband.
Tom nodded. »They’re in the car. Are you ready?«
»Maja isn’t. She makes such a fuss. She claims to have nothing to wear for the fifty-fifth birthday of her Granny and there’ll be a lot of guests.« Zoe sighed and rolled her eyes. »Perhaps you can persuade her to any outfit?«
»Sure.« Tom strode to the first floor and knocked on the door of the girl’s room. »Maja? Sweetie, may I come in?«
Grrmpf.
Tom pressed down the door-handle and peeked into the room.
Maja was sitting on her bed desperately looking to her cupboard. Tom sat down next to her and gazed into the open cupboard, too.
They did not say anything for a while, then, Tom cleared his throat. »You want to be trendy for Grandma, don’t you?«
»Yeah.«
»Skirt or trousers?«
Maja shrugged. »Don’t know.«
Tom stood up and got a dark blue flared skirt. »You’ll look in it like a princess, sweetie! And with this turquoise shirt you’ll be the star of the evening.« Tom grinned at her.
»Very funny, Dad!« Maja snatched the clothes away from him. »Okay, but you’re leaving my room.«
Surprised, Tom made a face, but left.
»Will she come?« Zoe stood on the staircase waiting for an answer.
»Yes, we can start in five minutes.«
Zoe helped her daughter to tie up her hair and after a quarter of an hour she fell on the front passenger seat, completely exhausted.
»That was highest time, Mom,« Anton said looking out of the window grumpily. »We have been waiting here for ages to drive to this gorgeous pensioner’s birthday.«
Tom turned around angrily. «Watch out what you’re saying, pal!«
Anton made a face and gazed out of the window. While Zoe was looking for a nice radio program, Tom roared through the city.
Already twenty minutes later, he parked the car.
»Jesus, here are a lot of cars!« Maja said shocked.
»I guess, Granny has invited a lot of people,« Zoe replied.
Anton rolled his eyes. »I’m overjoyed!«
Tom left the car and tried to free Penny out of her child seat. »Don’t thrash about, you little one, otherwise I can’t lose your seatbelt.«
Zoe pushed her husband aside. »Let me do it, darling! Your fingers are too big.«
»Well, usually you don’t mind,« Tom whispered winking.
»Oh, Dad, can’t you think of anything else than sex?« Annoyed, Anton stared at his parents.
»That’s none of your business, pal! We’ll talk again in two years.«
Anton clicked his tongue and headed for the sandy way of the allotment garden. From the far distance, they saw several colorful Chinese lanterns hanging around the club house. Tables were placed on the terrace and guests were sitting in the glow of the storm lanterns. Loud pop music came out of the »Pop music!« Anton grumbled while Maja and Penny happily hopped hand in hand into the house.
Benno carried his animal books and was so quiet, that nobody noticed him.
»God, where is Benno? Did we forget him at home?« Zoe stopped shocked and looked around.
Tom laughed and pointed to the entrance door through which their junior actually slipped. »There he is! Take a deep breath!«
Zoe gasped. »Good Lord, this boy is that unremarkable that I’m afraid he’ll disappear into thin air someday.«
»He’s fine.« Tom pushed his wife to the entrance directly to his mother-in-law who was just taking the self-made gifts of her grandchildren.
»Happy birthday, Mom!« Zoe embraced her mother and presented a little gift to her.
In the club house was chaos, music was ringing out of the music box and the guests were talking and laughing out loud.
»Thanks, little one. Ah, you brought your charming husband!« Stefanie Pfennigbaum smiled falsely holding out her hand as if Tom had the »Hello Tom!«
»Hello Mom-in-law!« Tom knew that she hated to be called like that. Probably, she also hated him because he had made sure that her youngest became a fourfold mother and housewife with no career.
»How are your studies, darling?« Stefanie asked.
Zoe smiled and raised her thumbs.
Her mother beamed overjoyed and looked at Tom triumphantly. »God, I’m so glad that you’re leaving your prison to seek the career ladder.«
Tom ignored her comment and turned around to get something to drink. Though his mother-in-law was absolutely snobbish, she celebrated her birthdays in this dull club house because she was afraid people could contaminate her expensive bathroom at home.
Even though Tom knew that Zoe has planned to drink a glass of champagne with her cousins today, he was having such a trying time of his monster-in-law that he would only bear her with a certain blood alcohol level. He has long forgotten the bouquet in his hands as he sat down at the bar and sighed.
»Hello Jacob!« Tom raised his hand and took the coke his father-in-law was giving him with a grin.
»Thanks, but today, I need something stronger.«
Jacob bent forward and patted Tom’s shoulder. »There is so much whiskey in it that you’ll wait on my wife’s hand and foot after half an hour.« He knew about the strain between Tom and his wife, but it was no secret that Jacob worshipped his son-in-law. »How many criminals did you arrest this week?«
Tom shrugged. »A big city is luring a lot of sharks. Our work will never come to an end. Cheers!« He drank, shivered and slapped the bouquet on the counter. »That’s quite a mixture!«
»Don’t you want to hand it over to the birthday girl?«
»Sandra!« Tom looked at his sister-in-law admiringly.
»You’re looking brilliant!«
»Thanks, you’re too!« Sandra winked and took the bouquet to put it into a vase.
Exactly two months before Tom met Zoe more than thirteen years ago, he had had a hot affair with Sandra – and Zoe did not know about it.
Sandra has never pardoned her sister for snatching awa
y the most popular heartthrob of their school and kicking her out of the race, even though she has always known deep in her heart that it was bound to go wrong with him. Only their sexual force of attraction was still there – at least with her.
Tom watched Sandra placing the flowers on the birthday table and, finally, coming back to the bar.
»Don’t you participate in that champagne-coma-boozing?« Tom asked, swallowing the rest of his whiskey-coke-mixture. »Jacob, one more, please!«
»Sure.« Jacob winked and just in time, he saw his wife disappearing with her colleague.
Tom also noticed it, but remained silent. After the third glass of whiskey-coke, he asked Sandra for a dance.
At the end of the song, he landed in her arms and laughed.
»Take your hands off my eldest daughter,« Stefanie got nasty with Tom. »It’s enough that you’ve spoiled my youngest daughter’s life.«
Tom disentangled from Sandra and swirled around. »I have never spoiled anyone’s life, lovely Mom-in-law!«
Jacob appeared and tried to pass on a glass of champagne to his wife, but Stefanie was swirling like a madwoman and knocked it down. »God, Jacob, can’t you watch out?«
Jacob hurried away while Tom was bending forward. »What exactly do you tax me to have done?« His words were not clear anymore, but he did not care.
»Don’t tell me you’re faithful, pal! Handsome men like you are screwing women every week. First, you’ve seduced Sandra, broke her heart and, then, you knocked up Zoe.«
»Mom!« Shocked, Zoe blew up her reddened cheeks. No-one had noticed her approaching. »Tom, is that true? Sandra?«
Sandra nodded embarrassed while her mother contorted her face.
That was the last straw for Tom. His blood alcohol level was high enough to stand up to his mother-in-law. »Compared with you, lovely Mom-in-law, I’ve been sleeping with one woman for fourteen years. I had already finished with Sandra before I fell in love with Zoe.«
That was the truth.
He had in fact been faithful.
And the insignificant kiss with Luca did not count since Luca was a man.
»You don’t expect us to believe that, do you?«
Jacob passed a new glass of champagne over to his wife and smiled at her shyly, but she did not even take note of him.
»People in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones.«
»I haven’t had affairs with other women,« Stefanie replied highly insulted.
»Well, maybe not with other women, but your newest fucker is still standing next to you. How long have you been disappearing in the garden?« Tom glanced at his watch. »Twenty minutes. Enough time for a quickie.«
Stefanie deeply blushed. She opened her mouth like a carp, closed it and, finally, clicked her tongue. »I won’t be spoken to like that?«
Silence.
The music had a break and the silver haired man next to Stefanie looked bashfully at the ground.
»And your actual lover is only one out of many and you dare to accuse me screwing other women? How many guys have you consumed during the years of your marriage?« Tom was angry. »And now listen! You’re the most arrogant, horny career-minded snipe, who doesn’t care a damn for her husband, who would even wipe her ass if she let him.« Tom was going wild and rejected Zoe’s hands. »Leave me alone! It’s long overdue that someone is telling your mother monster what’s what.« Tom took a deep breath. »Right from the beginning, you’ve been against our marriage and you’ve made no attempt to hide it all over the years,« Tom blabbered. »You’re treating useless people like doormats. Yes, like doormats.«
»I don’t have to listen to that any longer, Tom Weidemeyer! If it were up to you, my daughter would still bring you some beer in the evening, look after the kids and keep your house.« Her thin nostrils flattered. She looked at him as if she wanted to kill him.
»What’s wrong with that?« Tom staggered.
Zoe rolled her eyes. »Stop! Stop that immediately!«
»Why? Is your intact world endangered?« Tom grinned grimly.
Zoe dragged him to the bar. »Why did you drink? We agreed that I drink today.«
»We didn’t,« Tom replied. »You’ve decided because you’re always deciding. Anyway, you’re deciding e-v-e-r-y-t-h-i-n-g a-l-w-a-y-s o-n y-o-u-r o-w-n, Miss Superstudent!« Tom walked around the bar and helped himself for a whiskey.
»You don’t wanna drink some more, do you?« Zoe stared at him in disbelief.
»Tell me, how am I supposed to bear my dragon-in-law?« Tom drank, shivered and grinned. »Whoa! That’s a real man’s mixture.«
»Have you gone mad? How are we supposed to come home?«
»Taxi, babe!«
Grrmpf.
»God, your mother makes me puke, this bloody slut!« Tom continued drinking.
»Tom!«
Stefanie came closer. «I’ve heard this, you wimp.«
»Wimp? Not so!« Tom smirked at his mother-in-law. »I could shag thousands of women if I wanted to, but I’m only fucking my wife. And I’m damn good in it, aren’t I, babe?« Tom grabbed for the chips and put an extra-large portion into his mouth while touching his wife’s butt.
»Shut up, Tom!« Zoe’s voice shrilled in his ears.
»Don’t bark at me, sweetie!«
»You and my sis are real hypocrites. Why have you never said a word?« Insulted, Zoe folded her arms.
»That would have only upset you and you were faster pregnant than I could say anything«, Sandra replied.
»You don’t need to get worked up, Zoe,« Jacob said, »finally, it was Sandra being together with Tom first, not vice versa.«
»Do you fancy women, babe?«
»You’re talking nonsense, Tom! You’ve drunken too much.« Zoe took away his glass and passed him a slice of bread, but Tom rejected. «I don’t wanna eat anything now. Coincidentally, I just wanna be drunk.«
»No-one here is lesbian, Tom,« Sandra said.
»So? Well, then ask your mother whether she has met a woman in her swinger club.«
Sandra and Zoe gasped.
Enraged, Stefanie glared at him.
»What’s up? Haven’t you heard of swinger clubs?« Tom smirked. »As far as I’m informed, my decent Mom-in-law has visited the swinger club near my police station together with her fucker. I guess, they ram-rodded like rabbits.« Tom laughed out loud. »Well, Monster-in-law, your good son-in-law is working at the police and had an operation next to your sex club. And I don’t think there are more pompous old crows looking like you and whose husbands aren’t enough.« Tom stood up and staggered towards the telephone. »I’m leaving now. Bye!«
Jacob called a taxi, obviously shocked by the news about his wife.
»There was no need to broadcast that in front of the guests. It’s my mother’s birthday,« Zoe complained.
Tom bowed. »Forgive me, lovely maiden! Now it’s my fault that your mother is betraying her husband at her birthday party and implying me to do the same.«
Zoe furled her brows and kept silent. Her party mood had gone. »Dad, don’t order a taxi. I’ll call Tom’s parents. I bet they’ll pick us up.«
»Yes, Tom’s parents are much nicer than your eccentric mother, aren’t they?« Stefanie was hitting the roof.
»They’ve never reproached us for getting so many kids so early.«
»No,« her mother replied, »their sonny was sitting pretty. You were expecting the babies doing without a career so that your husband could get to the top.«
»I didn’t get to the top, you stupid goose, I’ve only chosen a job with which I was able to feed my extended family,« Tom said while Zoe was calling his parents.
»You should have only prevented once instead of multiplying steadily.«
»Mother!« said Zoe angry.
Tom only shrugged. »It’s no secret that you’ve had enough with two kids because they were in your way when you screwed around. This doesn’t mean that we are unhappy with our decision.« Tom’s head was spinning. He sat down and bit into t
he slice of bread. »God, you don’t have this kind of stress with a man!«
»What do you mean?« asked Zoe, but Tom’s head sank onto the bar. The alcohol had put him into a deep sleep.
***
»Well, Luca, show me what you’ve learned up to now!« Tom tried to ignore his miserable hangover. He couldn’t remember a thing from his mother-in-law’s birthday party. He only suspected that something had happened because Zoe got out of his way since then.
He positioned himself weakly in the middle of the room and raised his sword ready for the fight.
Luca followed him hesitatingly. One could tell just by looking at him that he did not like Tom’s underlying aggressions.
»Shit! This is not my day! I’m leaving in case you’re not putting on your shirt immediately!«
Surprised, Luca shuffled to the bench to put on his shirt. »You haven’t been bothered by it as yet…«
»Yeah, but today, it does!« Tom felt the arousal rising like a nasty cramp in his leg as Luca’s shirt slipped over his perfect chest. Now, he looked even more bewitching than before. Tom felt the unbridled lust to screw him even though he had no idea how to do it. He has never gotten Zoe to do anal intercourse. And, to be honest, he could not imagine that his gigantic dick was fitting into a rosette.
»Good Lord, I’ve got a lot of rest alcohol in my blood. My senses are going berserk,« he said to himself.
Luca came back. »Better?«
Tom nodded.
Then, he fought as if it was a matter of life and death. Every strike hit home. Even after one hour, he could raise his sword powerfully and let it bang diagonally downwards.
Luca had a hard time to keep up, but he was talented enough to get out of the way or to parry. He hit Tom’s sword in time in an angle of ninety degrees and raised his sword horizontally to head for Tom’s trunk, but Tom parried with the short side of his blade as if he had expected it. He jumped forward in sidestep, dragged his sword highly above his head and let it crash down. »Stick your fingers at your handle!« Tom called angrily, »if you’re slipping too far to the middle you won’t have a finger anymore in case I’m hitting your blade.«
»What’s wrong with you today?« Luca remained breathless and lifted his arms just in time to parry Tom’s sword.
